A Utah father is facing serious charges after he was caught on camera abandoning his 5-year-old daughter at a college campus overnight.
According to Fox 13, the heartless father brought the little girl to the Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College campus, then left.
“She said she got scared,” the girl’s mother, whose name has not been revealed, said. “She was yelling, ‘Daddy!’ but no one was there.”
Temperatures got down to 39 degrees that night while the little girl waited in the cold.
“She said she just kind of had her blanket and waited until daylight,” the mother said.
Fred Frazier, Security Manager for the school, told Fox 13 that the security footage from the school shows the scared girl waiting in the same spot all night for her father to return.
The little girl wasn’t rescued until 7:30 a.m., when security personnel spotted her running toward them.
According to authorities, the 5-year-old accidentally tripped and fell trying to chase them down, scraping her knees in the process.
“It was heartbreaking for him,” Frazier said of the security guard who found the child. “To see a little girl running alone by herself. That’s when he got very concerned, and she was shivering and cold.”
Although Ogden Police immediately launched an investigation to figure out why the girl’s father left her alone in the cold, they still don’t really have a viable answer.
“We don’t know really what purpose he’d take the child, if there was a drug-induced psychosis. Right now, we’re waiting to interview the father,” said Lt. Tim Scott with the Ogden Police Department.
The mom explained that she’d had problems with her daughter’s father in the past, but she never thought he’d do something quite this dangerous.
