People tend to use antibacterial soaps nowadays. This type of soap is supposed to protect you from all the germs and harmful bacteria – but what you did not know is that they are made with chemicals that do more harm than good to us?
Well, recent studies in South Korea conducted by the National University and the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology have now shown that a chemical that goes by the name triclosan is not only known to boost the creation of cancer cells but is present in many beauty and cosmetic products, including the antibacterial soap.
The triclosan is known to be a disruptor of the hormones can imitate the estrogen and as a result of that creates a disbalance in the hormones, for an example with the testosterone.
It is also known to cause breast cancer, by having an impact on the endocrine system creating abnormal formulation of the cells.
Through all the animal tests that were carried out it was found out that the risk when using some of the products with this compound were very high, regardless if they were for short term or long term use.
Another antibacterial compound, octylphenol, poses a same threat as the triclosan. Especially when combined together, they create a high rate of abnormal cells.
Some studies have also proven the connection between these compounds and skin irritation, endocrine disruption, antibiotic resistance and other.
Groups such as Beyond Pesticides and the Environmental Working Group have tried to raise the awareness about the cosmetic and beauty products who may harm our health.
These groups have been known to shed a light on the substances used in cosmetic products and have requested from the FDA to prohibit either the use of this substance or all of the products that contain it.
They have made a list comprising of products which have the triclosan as a compound in them. Here are some of them:
