Most parents will call their child their ‘angel,’ but these parents in Canada mean it literally.
After a terrible car crash off an embankment that left the mother with a broken back and their infant son with brain bleed, their courageous five-year-old daughter climbed her way back up to the road to flag down help.
Angela Shymanski was driving with her daughter Lexi, 5 and peter, 2 months, when the tired mom was lulled to sleep by the soft music meant to soothe the kids.
The car flew 40 feet down into a creek and hit a tree.
Things could have ended tragically if not for Lexi.
Lexi woke up and found her mother unconscious and Peter crying.
She managed to unbuckle her car seat and wriggle out of the wreckage.
Barefoot, she climbed back up the cliff and hailed a passing driver.
Thankfully, the very first driver to stop was a paramedic.
Lexi led him to the wreckage and he realized Angela’s back was broken.
He called for help, and firefighters used climbing ropes to help get the injured mother and son up to safety.
The family has a lot of healing to do after such a terrifying ordeal, but if not for Lexi it could have been much worse.
“It was only because she came up and flagged people down that anybody would have stopped,” said Angela.
“It’s amazing and we’re just so glad she did that.”
