For a lot of people, a world without their mothers seems inconceivable. What would we do without their kind and wise words and motherly affection? Just the thought of a world without our mothers makes many people teary eyed.
Mothers come in all shapes and sizes, but the best type of mom is a strong one. You can really learn a lot from a strong mother, and some of the lessons you learn will stay with you for the rest of your life.
In appreciation of strong mothers everywhere, here are 10 important things you learn from being raised by a strong mother.
You don’t need anyone to take care of you, particularly no man. You learn by example that you’re able to live a full and happy man without having to share it with someone. You learn that you can make a home, raise kids on your own, and do all the grown up things you’re supposed to do. You essentially learn how to be Superwoman. Thanks mom!
2. You Learn The Meaning Of Unconditional Love
Our mothers sacrificed so much for us. Nights out with her friends, important days, having to stay at home if you were sick. Staying up late if you were sick during the night, or if you had a nightmare. No matter how she felt, she always managed to keep that warm and loving smile cemented on her face. She taught us what unconditional love looks like, and deep down we all know it’s hard to find that kind of love anywhere else.
While you may see flaws your mom sees beauty. For every bad thing about your body, your appearance, your mom can think of five good things about you. You’re beautiful, smart, caring, kind, and out of this world, and your mom was always the one to help you see that. She gave value to your other qualities before beauty. Looks, bad grades, heartbreaks don’t define you. It’s how you see yourself. Thanks to our moms we’re able to see who we really are and we’ve learned to love ourselves.
4. You Learn That You Can Be Strong And Soft
Strong mothers are quite often very sensitive, but they’re able to hide it better than anyone else. She cares enough to try and not let you see that she’s emotional, but we’ve all seen our moms silently cry over our pain, over our heartbreaks. If something is the matter with you, then it’s bound to be affecting your mother. She usually just won’t let you see. Our mothers prove to us that being sensitive doesn’t stop you from being strong. It just shows that you’re strong enough to embrace your emotions and keep them under control.
Women learn from an early age that it’s a tough world out there, especially for women. Our opinions may be discredited, we may be the punch line of every joke. But your mother shows you that what doesn’t kill you simply makes you stronger, and sometimes in order to be noticed you have to make your voice loud enough for everyone to hear. Your mom taught you to fight hard for your voice.
6. You Learn To Never Look Back
The past is untouchable. That’s something my mother taught me. We can’t change who we are, or what we’ve done. But we can either embrace it and learn from our mistakes, or we can let it define who we are and potentially let it ruin everything we’ve worked for. You learn that ‘what ifs’ are pointless and will kill your motivation to move on. Just like sharks, if we stop moving forward we get stuck and die.
7. You learn the importance of patience and faith
Whether you believe in God or not, you quickly learn that someone is looking out for you. Everything will be ok in the end, and if it isn’t then it’s clearly not the end. As my mom said ‘today’s newlines are tomorrow’s garbage’.
8. You learn how to create your own happiness
You can always find happiness in difficult times. In any rough point in your mother’s life, she would quite find happiness with you. You can still be happy, regardless of the burden you’re carrying. Our moms taught us that we can always find something to smile, we may just have to look harder to find it.
