Feeling depressed, stressed, isolated and lonely has become regular and normal thing and many people have problem finding their place in the world as they feel abandoned, alone or rejected. Rare persons like being alone and they avoid socialization. Sometimes, we feel like we did not truly exist. Without a group to neatly “fit” into, we can lose all sense of our identities. However, we all want to belong somewhere or with someone and it is not accepted to not be a part of a some group.

Recent researches say that in no time, we all have a “loneliness epidemic” and they predict that this will increase sooner or later.

If you are experiencing any of this, then here are the ways of how to get over this feeling and enjoy life:

  1. Get in touch with others and connect with those with the same or similar interests like you.

It’s best to hang out or have conversations with people who have the same hobby or same interests, so you have activities that are interesting for all of you.  It doesn’t take much to meet other people, all you need to do is look around and find the people that you think will be interested in knowing you.

  1. Find yourself

A wise man once said “You cannot be lonely if you like the person you’re alone with”

There are many voices out there telling you who to be, how to act or what to do.

We must realize that you do not have to justify your worth. You can also try different things to figure out what you enjoy. And the best advice you can get is to let go of expectations.

  1. Talk to someone new when you are out and about.

Nowadays, technology is everywhere around us and people seem to always have a phone in their hands, instead of having real life conversations, they use stickers and snapchats to express their feelings.  If you have this habit, let go of the phone, wherever you are and start a conversation with the guy or girl next to you. You never know until you try.

  1. Ask yourself if your feelings actually represent reality or not.

Not to argue that loneliness is definitely a growing reality in our modern world, but does a temporary feeling accurately depict your entire life? Maybe you have a tight-knit group of friends and family, but just feel lonely in the moment. If that’s the case, try to figure out what brought this feeling on. Has it been a while since you last saw your friends? Should you call your family to check in with them? Or, maybe you need to do some self-reflecting and spend some time alone for a while, just reconnecting with yourself.

  1. Get involved in activities that you truly enjoy.

Try art classes, different forms of exercise, cooking, a film club, volunteering abroad, creative writing, and I’m still trying new things out. This has provided me with a greater insight into what the real you actually enjoy, and I’ve had a lot of fun along the way.
