Cordyceps Sinensis has become a recipient of various awards and in 2000 is given the title of the best products, and the Chinese Committee for Quality Supervision was particularly rewarded.
Many Western scholars and herbalists from the East agree that Cordyceps Sinensis is the most potent herb in the world!
Chinese emperors have closely examined this gift of Mother Nature and they believed that this fungus will enable them longevity, life and to reign.
Cordyceps has the strength of antioxidants because contain a huge amount of beta-carotene, vitamin E andvitamin C
, minerals – selenium and zinc, ubiquinone (coenzyme Q10), immune type of modeling polysaccharides and other substances.
This fungus with his composition is acting on the pineal gland and stimulates the production of melatonin, a universal antioxidant with the powerful operation of the occurrence and prevention of cancer cells.
The Cordyceps contain 77 macro and micro elements, unique amino acids, more than eighty types of enzymes, unsaturated fatty acids, etc. There are also present minerals and vitamins which are essential for human health.
Cordyceps is the most potent herb in the world
Taking this fungus in any quantity is not harmful. The human cannot overdose while is using this fungus.
In any case, the principle of synergism is present, which is manifested particularly in the treatment of certain diseases. Fast and immediately visible effect of the treatment is just the result of synergism preparations.
The USA pharmacy was able to extract from Cordyceps unique substances such as cordycepin, cordycepin acid, adenosine, adenine, etc., which have a similar power to strengthen the immunity of people. The researching of these fungi has found that the quality of the biological effects of Cordyceps is associated with specific complex polysaccharides. A higher concentration of the polysaccharide in the experimental conditions showed that the immune regulation and antioxidants effect was up to 15 times stronger.
Today in the west this fungus commonly is used at two groups of consumers: athletes and people in years.
Athletes have begun to use it after the publicity caused by the success of the Chinese women’s athletic team on the Chinese state games of 1993. At his competition has fallen 9 world records, and with the stunning difference compared to previous records! At first, sports officials suspect drug use that leads to improved results, as long as the coach did not reveal the secret that he gave Cordyceps to the team members!
Research has recently confirmed that the use of Cordyceps increases the level of ATP – adenosine triphosphate in the cell. Increasing cellular ATP means the actual increase in consumption, which can still be used. It differs from the apparent increase in energy that occurs when are using stimulants of the central nervous system, such as caffeine, ephedrine and amphetamine. Taking drugs such as amphetamine, patients feel like they have more energy, but it is not really so. These drugs affect the central nervous system and not the cell so that the end result is a lack of energy. Therefore taking amphetamines leads to weight loss. The brain thinks it has enough energy and continues with activities. But, of course, since there is no additional energy that cells use at any moment, the body is forced to draw their reserves – a reserve of fat.
By using Cordyceps can be achieved a double effect – an increase in ATP and higher oxygen consumption obtained more energy to burn more oxygen in the human cells. That’s why athletes use this fungus as a source of additional energy, and the soldiers use it as a means of reducing fatigue. Older people are taking it for the same reason – more energy and breathe easier.
The effect of Cordyceps on cancer cells
One of the biggest benefits of Cordyceps is the potential of these fungi as a source of new drugs against cancer. A growing number of oncologists worldwide recommended and used this fungus as a supplement to chemotherapy, radiation and other conventional and traditional methods of treating cancer. It has shown an extraordinary ability that not only prevents growth, in some cases even killing certain kinds of tumors but also as a means by which the immune system and the whole body can maintain a strong and vital while it`s simultaneously threatening effects of chemotherapy and radiation (Namakura and others, 2003).
In addition, its secondary operation helps the body for more efficiently use of resources at the immune system in case of stress, which patient survives in the attack of cancer (Shin and others, 2003) and allows him to recognize, eradicate and prevent abnormalities and disease at the local and at the system level Koh and others, 2002).
Immune modulator effects
A large number of studies are dealing with immune-stimulate and immune-suppressive properties of Cordyceps. This two-way regulation of immune system function and the fact that it can strengthen or weaken called immune modulation and seem to come from the same mechanism in the body.
When is Cordyceps administered to a patient whose immune system is weakened due to diseases such as cancer, hepatitis, or HIV infection, the number, and activity of white blood cells increases. In contrast, if this fungus is given to someone with hyper-immunity, as is the case in patients with lupus, lymphoma and rheumatoid arthritis, the number and activity of white blood cells decrease while increasing the number of red blood cells. All blood cells are produced in the bone marrow, especially in the long bones of the legs. They leave the bone marrow as immature and travel to other organs which mature in certain types of blood cells, such as red blood cells and T-cells.
How is it possible that the same compound in some patients acts as an immune stimulator and in others as immune-depressant? Apparently, the answer lies in the fact of Cordyceps on the mechanism of differentiation of blood cells, which signals the body where it should send the immature cells. This mechanism is clearly shown in a study that deals with the way Cordyceps affect the maturation of leukemia cells (Chen and others, 1997). This immune modulation at the level of differentiation is a natural anti-bomb disease. The body receives a signal that we should fight against the disease, whether it’s a drop or increase immunity.
The effect of Cordyceps on the kidneys
Patients with chronic diseases and reduced kidney function often suffer from high blood pressure, proteinuria and anemia. A study of such patients showed that after one month of therapy Cordyceps their blood pressure was reduced by 15% and significantly reduced the amount of protein.
In addition, it`s noticed a jump superoxide dismutase (SOD), which, together with established reduction in serum lipoperokside, suggests the possibility of neutralizing free radicals, resulting in less damage to cells (Jiang and Gao, 1995).
Cordyceps is was in a great number of studies in humans and animals, tested as a potential agent for the regulation of blood sugar level and have shown really good. In one experiment, 95% of patients who were given 3 ml of liquid or 3 grams of dry this fungus a day, it could see improvement in the blood count, while in the control group tested other methods, with only 54% of patients noted improvement. The common connection of the results is that those tests are enhanced insulin sensitivity and increase the production of glucokinase and hexokinase, an enzyme in the liver that regulates blood glucose. In short, Cordyceps may be useful in patients with diabetes whether administered alone or with other drugs. In an unpublished study conducted by the author on the subjects who did not have diabetes, but which were given 3 grams (3 ml) of this fungus a day, it was discovered that the normal variation in blood sugar levels that occur during the day, and an increase in blood glucose after meals and its decline between meals was significantly reduced in the group that took the Cordyceps. Blood sugar after a meal was not growing as usual, but it wasn`t decreased between meals. This may be an indicator of increased efficiency of the mechanism of regulation of blood sugar levels.
The effect of Cordyceps on heart function
One of the more serious effects of Cordyceps and in traditional and modern medicine is the ability to rate stabilization and correction of cardiac arrhythmias. This fungus today in China is the one that is on the first line of defense in the treatment of serious diseases of this type. Although the mechanism of action of Cordyceps to control arrhythmias is only partially known, it is believed that it was, in part, driven the presence of adenosine (Pelleg and others, 1990). This fungus contains a significant amount of adenosine, deoxyadenosine, and the like nucleotides. It has been shown that these compounds have a great effect on coronary and cerebral circulation (Toda and others, 1982), (Bern, 1980). Although no other drug or plant don`t have the same effects in all patients, there are rare cases in which the arrhythmia has not improved after adding Cordyceps classical therapy. It`s still unknown that this fungus reacts the opposite of any other cure for arrhythmia, and it seems to be due to its non-toxicity an outstanding choice in the treatment of these diseases. This fungus is traditionally used in the treatment of heart disease, and it is well demonstrated in patients who have suffered a stroke.
Research conducted on patients with chronic heart disease have shown that long-term intake of Cordyceps in combination with conventional therapy – digoxin, hydrochlorothiazide, dopamine and dobutamine, leading to an improved quality of life at patients, compared with patients in the control group. These include the general physical condition, mental health, sexual drive and cardiac function (Chen, 1995).
The effect of Cordyceps on the liver
Almost all studies have shown that this fungus improves the functioning of this important organ. For example, in the Orient this fungus is regularly used as an adjunct therapy for chronic hepatitis B and C. In one of the studies, extract of this fungus is used in combination with other extracts of several medicinal mushrooms, in addition to lamivudine in the treatment of hepatitis B. Lamivudine is a common antivirus ilk who is used in the therapy of hepatitis.
Since clinical data on Cordyceps is relatively new, the recommended dose can vary. In general, clinical trials were performed with 3 – 4 ml and up to 5 ml per day of this fungus, except in cases of the severe liver disease, when the dose was increased to 6-9 ml per day. There are the doctors who gave their cancer patients from 20 ml to 50 ml per day. Although this amount can be done too, clinical results achieved with this therapy are outstanding and has not been registered (recorded) toxicity of this fungus.
This fungus has extraordinary healing properties. Among those who investigate and research the mushroom Cordyceps Sinensis is the Dr. Georg Halper professor at the University of Hong Kong, the author of several books about this fungus.
One of the most successful contemporary researches was the discovery of new antibiotics in this fungus. One of them is a cordycepin that is very effective against all bacteria that have developed or are developing resistance to other antibiotics such as penicillin – fungi product.
Cordyceps is especially effective against tuberculosis, leprosy and human leukemia. Used for thousands of years in Chinese medicine to treat asthma and other bronchial difficulties and helps to mitigate the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Numerous studies show the benefits of this fungus in treating heart rhythm disorders such as heart failure, chronic weakness of the heart and cardiac arrhythmia. Four studies have demonstrated that Cordyceps Sinensis helped to lower levels of total cholesterol by 10-21% and triglycerides (neutral fats) by 9-26% and at the same time helped to increase HDL (good) cholesterol by 27-30%.
The liver is the living filter of the body, cleanses the blood and other fluids of impurities. There is no way to survive, much less feel healthy if the liver is not working properly. Clinical studies of supplementation with this fungus included in the 33 patients suffering from hepatitis B and 8 patients suffering from cirrhosis of their liver showed a 71.9% improvement in test thymol, 78.6% improvement SGPT – serum glutamate-pyruvate transaminase test. Those are enzyme tests which show changes in the function of the liver. A Chinese study showed an improvement of 51% in chronic kidney disease after only one month of using this fungus. Several clinical studies on cancer patients conducted in China and Japan, using a therapeutic dose of 6.0 grams of this fungus per day and it has been shown that tumors were reduced in 46% of patients in the period of two months.
Researchers from Japan informed that this fungus enhances the general reactivity of the immune system.
Clinical research in controlled studies has revealed that elderly patients suffering from fatigue and symptoms associated with dementia reported an improvement of the situation after 30 days. Their fatigue was reduced by 92% and feeling the cold by 89% and dizziness in 83%. Patients with respiratory problems felt physically stronger and some individuals were able to jog in the shorter distances. Several studies have shown that this fungus provides protection against damage caused by free radicals and has strong antioxidant properties. Various studies have shown that this fungus improves blood flow in the body by relaxing the smooth muscle of blood vessels, which allows them to expand, which improves the functioning of the heart and lungs. Cordyceps also prevents or reduces the contraction of blood vessels that interfere with blood flow to the legs, which is the main cause of tired legs. This fungus improves sexual function, according to three separate Chinese studies. The study has been comprised of 200 men with “reduced libido and other sexual problems” and both studies have been shown incredibly similar results. 64% of patients reported a significant improvement.
In the second study, which consisted of approximately the same number of women (189) with similar problems, about 90% reported improvement of the situation that ensued after taking Cordyceps. A study conducted at the Institute of Material Medical in Beijing showed an 86% improvement in female libido and desire. The most dramatic physical evidence comes from studies of fertility in the 22 men who showed that after eight weeks of taking supplements of this fungus a sperm count has been increased by 33%, the percentage of malformed sperm decreased by 29%, and the percentage of survival of their sperm increased by 79 %.
New scientific studies have confirmed and extended findings of traditional Chinese medicine that Cordyceps Sinensis fungi has many beneficial effects on health and can treat a wide range of diseases.
Cordyceps is a new generation of fungi that is used in the pharmaceutical industry. Thousands of years ago this fungus used by the Chinese kings, and today it is available to a wide number of consumers as a dietary supplement.
The Food and Drug Administration – FDA has ranked this fungus as “food” and classified it under “generally accepted as safe” (GRAS). A growing number of researchers who planted this fungus are considered as a super food which can be turned into almost any diet. Why are these rediscovered fungi considered as a super food? These medicinal fungi are very rich in glucan which has been shown to be useful in cancer therapy, as well as polysaccharides.
Polysaccharides are long chains of sugar containing many sections with oxygen. As the body breaks down these sugars, oxygen molecules are released and absorbed at the cellular level. It is known that any form ofcancer cannot survive in oxygen-rich environment and that without adequate levels of oxygen the body left to degenerative conditions that encourage the development of cancer, heart disease, immune disorders, diabetes, and also allows the development of many viral diseases such as Lyme disease, hepatitis C and many others.
The key is the way – how the body delivers oxygen at the cellular level.
Among the numerous pharmaceutical mushrooms next Cordyceps are Reishi, Maitake-Grifola frondosa and Agaricus which are rich in beta-glucan, known sources of oxygen.
One of the most successful modern researches was the discovery of new antibiotics in Cordyceps Sinensis.
